Pagoda Winds Down Operations
Pagoda, the Core Developer of the NEAR Ecosystem, to Cease Operations Within Six Months
The decision aligns with the strategy to decentralize the ecosystem. Critical services will be handed over to new operators. These include:
- near.org RPC
- NEAR Lake
- BigQuery Public Dataset
- Node Snapshots
- State Sync
- Additionally, undocumented yet critical infrastructure services such as:
- KitWallet Indexer API
- near-cli Testnet Faucet
The transfer of each service will proceed independently. Potential operators can submit proposals, which will be reviewed, funded, and overseen by the Infrastructure Committee.
near.org RPC
The Infrastructure Committee believes that the existence of this free RPC service, managed by Pagoda, hinders decentralization by suppressing healthy competition among commercial RPC providers.
As a result, the RPC throughput will gradually be reduced. High-traffic RPC users are advised to transition to alternative solutions. More details will be provided by the end of September 2024.
Chain Abstraction Services
Services such as Chain Signatures, Multichain Gas Relayer, and FastAuth will be transferred to a new company focusing on Chain Abstraction and multichain technologies. Additional details will be shared in September/October 2024.
Pagoda Services
- The Infrastructure Committee Management, Security Assessment Program, and management of the near.org website will be handed over to the NEAR Foundation.
- The Bug Bounty Program will transition to the protocol team at NEAR One.
- The NEAR Helpdesk will be converted into standalone documentation.
- Advisory services (e.g., smart contract audits) will be discontinued.
Open-Source Libraries
The following open-source libraries and tools will continue to be developed by the Pagoda team until either logically completed or stabilized for safe cessation:
Pagoda encourages the community to contribute to the development of these tools and reach out to DevHub or the Infrastructure Committee for additional funding if necessary.
Other Services
By February 2025, Pagoda will slow down or discontinue support for the following services:
These are also open-source projects, and Pagoda invites the community to continue their development and administration. If no new operators are found, users will be urged to switch to alternative solutions, and the mentioned products will be shut down.
